Events on the Greenway

It is nearly the end of January 2017 and we have hit the ground running with a series of events planned for the next few months.

On Friday 20th January, we launched the first Fitness Friday at the C.S. Lewis Square which was facilitated by the fantastic Fitness Freddy. We plan to hold a ‘Fitness Friday’ each month which will include a variety of physical activity including Boxercise, Dance and Fitness sessions. Keep an eye on our social media for future events.

Walk Cycle Green

We are delighted to start the year by announcing that Connswater Community Greenway has been selected as one of five exemplar green active travel projects worldwide, by the Central Scotland Green Network initiative. These selection means that we will form part of a suite of five case studies showcasing best practice from around the world. This is a fantastic project to be a part of as it showcases the Greenway on a global scale.

Construction of the Greenway continues with significant changes

Over the last few weeks the project has made considerable progress with the opening of the C.S. Lewis Square on Tuesday 22nd November.  The last of the remaining art was installed and remainder of the trees planted just in time for the opening.

Only two sections of flood wall work remain; two flood walls to be poured at Ladas Drive and at the retail park at Connswater. The rest of the flood walls are in place and work on the hand rails from Severn Street to Sydenham is progressing well at this stage.

C.S. Lewis Square opens

On Tuesday November 22nd families flocked from near and far to the opening of the C.S. Lewis Square.

With space for 2000 people it’s the first of its kind in the East with a dedicated public space for events and activities.  Both BBC Newsline and UTV were there interviewing sculptor Maurice Harron, Project Manager Wendy Langham and Guest of Honour Douglas Gresham.

A new magical place for Belfast opens later this month with the opening of the landmark C.S. Lewis Square.

The square, which is currently being built at the intersection of the Connswater and Comber Greenways, will be one of Belfast’s most exciting public spaces, with capacity for around 2,000 people at events and celebrations - helping to revitalise inner East Belfast and also marking the life and work of one of the city’s most celebrated writers.
