The Final Fling - Last Greenway section opens

It’s been an incredible 10 year journey and today, 25th April, Connswater Community Greenway reached a turning point in this transformative project; the opening of the final section through Connswater Shopping Centre and Retail Park to Flora Street Walkway.

Researchers to study impact of the Greenway on health and well-being

A team of researchers at the Centre of Excellence for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast, are studying the impact of the Connswater Community Greenway on physical activity levels, general health & well-being and social capital of the local population in East Belfast.

National Gardening Week celebrated with new website feature

To coincide with National Gardening Week from 10th – 16th April we’re delighted to announce our new What’s Growing on the Greenway addition to our website. With over 300 trees planted in C.S. Lewis Square alone, more than 50 different types of plants and shrubs along the Greenway and new riverside planting, we are keen to watch, learn and record what and how well the Greenway is growing.

New sections to be named by public

Connswater Community Greenway will open its final section at the end of April and as part of that we're asking the public to come forward and name 6 new additions. This process has proven popular already with the public naming the James Ellis Bridge, Sam Thompson Bridge and Grace Bannister Bridge as well as the new pathway – Marshwiggle Way which connects Braniel to Orangefield Park.

Bridges, pathways and parks are critical in connecting people and places so we're keen to involve the local community in choosing the names for these vital connections.

Four in a row openings conclude with family fun day

Last week was a busy one in Connswater Community Greenway HQ as we opened four sections featuring a further 4kms of new cycle and pedestrian paths, two new play parks, two new multi-use games areas and two new bridges.
